They're not knots
Birdseye Maple

These little spots almost look like knots:
In fact, they're little pockets of curly grain. Of all the hardwoods, maple has
more different patterns of figure, and more descriptive terms for those patterns.
Look closely at those little "eyes"
They're almost like tiny blisters. I have no idea of what causes this distinctive
"birdseye" pattern.
