Which way is up?
First String

With very few exceptions, the first string is the string at the treble edge of the
fingerboard. It's the string that's tuned the highest, the first your hand encounters
as you reach around the neck:
It is NOT the first one you see as you look down at the instrument.
So lowest in physical position as you play, but highest in pitch.
