Ribbon Grain

Traditionally, the finest and most formal mahogany furniture was made with elegant
"ribbon grain" mahogany. This wood grows with alternate rows of reversing
grain direction, or "runout." Looking at the surface from different angles, the rows seem to
move as they catch the light.
