The original "baby" guitar
Martin "Terz"

Introduced before the Civil War, the Martin size "5" guitar was originally
sold as a "terz," and tuned a third higher than a regular guitar. In recent
years the size 5 has also been called "3/4 size," with the assumption that
it would be good for kids.
Back in the catalog as a special reissue, this size 5 guitar is again being marketed
as a terz. It's small size and short scale (around 22 inches) is perfect for the
higher tuning. This one is a rosewood model with style "28" appointments
with the addition of abalone inlay around the soundhole.
