Kamaka = Koa = Hawaiian
Kamaka Tenor Ukulele

© Frank Ford, 2000; Photos by FF

Founded in 1916, Kamaka is the oldest surviving Hawaiian ukulele factory. Their instruments are deceptively simple, but always consistent in quality. This is a tenor size ukulele made of some mighty fine looking figured koa. It is mounted with a set of Schaller guitar tuners, and has a guitar style bridge. Now standard, both features are an upgrade from previous instruments. If you'd like to see how these instrument are handcrafted, follow me on a field trip to Kamaka.

Take a look at the label. As a result of popular demand, Kamaka instruments now bear serial numbers.
