Sometimes, I can use the heat and moisture of steam to affect more than just the
wood beneath a ding.
This Taylor guitar suffered a nasty blow to the edge of its upper shoulder:
Nasty? Yeah, especially when you consider it was made by a falling Santa Cruz dreadnought
made of quilted mahogany. That guitar bounced off the Taylor, and landed on the floor,
virtually exploding. . .
OK, 'nuff of that.
I heated up my expresso machine steam generator, and directed the steam jet right
on the damaged area:
The moisture helped expand the crushed wood fibers, and the heat softened the plastic
binding.
While it was still hot, I clamped the spot good and hard with a flat acrylic caul:
I used the Quick Grip clamp because time was really of the essence.
Here's the result:
Not too bad, considering.
