Half a Pencil

I always have half a pencil around the shop for precise marking.

I just sand the side of the pencil flat all along, so that the lead lies flat against a surface when I need to mark a nut or saddle. Here's how the pencil looks:

Now it's easy for me to mark a clear line on a saddle right at the top of the bridge:

Can't miss with the old half pencil!

Nothing like the half pencil to lay right on the frets and "project" the fret height on a nut blank:

This has to be the easiest way to mark the nut for preliminary shaping.
