Serial number 85
1932 Selmer "Modele Jazz"
© Frank Ford, 2001; Photos by FF
This 1932 Selmer guitar bears serial number 85, making it the earliest Maccaferri
designed guitar appearing in the Selmer ledger book. It still has its original
internal resonator baffles, and all the other original appointments.
The great gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt, is certainly the reason we remember
the Selmer guitars, although he played a later model which had a small oval hole,
and no internal baffles. (If you'd like some good reading about these remarkable
instruments, take a hike over to Paul Hostetter's website, www.lutherie.net.)
