What's WRONG with
Molded Cases?

Nothing.
Except that they can warp catastrophically in the heat:
This case was strong and rigid, but it sat in a hot car baking in the sun.
Now the lid won't shut without a fair bit of effort:
The shell is cracked:
and cracked:
The hardware is pulling loose:
There's no way to fix this kind of molded case when it deteriorates this way.
In all fairness, I should mention that most molded cases don't age this poorly
unless they are overheated severely. We all try not to get our instruments this
hot, don't we?
