Tool Blocks

I make lots of little blocks to organize assortments of drill bits, taps, collets and all manner of similar tools I want to keep at hand.  Instead of laying out the holes neatly to fit a given size block, I simply start in one corner and space the holes in rows that give me the number I want:

Here I'm milling shallow recesses in a piece of acrylic for 30 drill bushings.

Then, when I have all my holes drilled, I simply trim the block so that it looks as though I'd spent the time dividing up and laying out the space:
