When reinforcing
a side crack, the temptation is to make lots of small cleats that just
cover the area. A better reinforcement is almost always provided by full
width strips that span the distance between the linings. The idea is to
keep the side form bending inward under pressure, which would reopen the
crack. A few full width supports like this will do wonders to keep crack
repair intact, even if the crack is right at the edge of the lining. Trust
me, it works!
