Drill bits aren't
the only tools that come in these cheesy little sheet metal "index" holders.
When you stab the tool through the first layer of sheet metal, you have
to wiggle and hunt around for it to find the second layer. You can save
a lot of aggravation by simply filling up the voids with some scrap wood,
and drilling through the sheet metal holes. Then, when you drop the tool
in place, it slides directly down the hole with no interference. In this
example, I gave my little project the "downtown treatment" by painting
the wood filler to match the original holder. Cool, yes?
