Camphor is a great old-time rust preventive and it can keep your steel tools nice and shiny in the drawer or box.  Just put a small block in a plastic bag and cut a few slits to let out the vapor as the block sumblimes.  And, what a great smell - those of us who work with celluloid will recoginize it immediately. Camphor can be a bit hard to find, but that's where Google comes in.
