If you use those cheap imported swing arm lamps, I'm sure you've noticed what short lives their switches and sockets have. Switch over to these twisty fluorescent replacement bulbs and you'll extend the life of the lamp many times over. A 100-watt replacement draws only 23 watts, so you get a bit more light, and none of the destructive heat.
