As I'm about to throw out a small regularly shaped piece of wood, I try to think about whether I have a use for it. One really good use is to cut it up into little wedges. I have a drawer with various size wedges, and I often find myself reaching for one to jam under a tricky clamping setup, or to shim a wobbly shelf, or whatever. . .
