When I want to dispense some paint into a smaller can, I don't try to pour it. I take a disposable cup, grip it with a hemostat and dip the paint out. If I keep all my activities centered over the paint can, I don't get any drips into the seal channel of the can. That way, the lid always goes back on nice and tight without a messy cleanup. I drop the cup into the trash, and I'm ready to paint.
