OK, I'll admit this tip is a bit of a stretch, but it is something I do occasionally.  For some kinds of jobs - especially painting - I like to have a small paper towel roll that dispenses half sheets.  So instead of taking a drive and springing for one of those designer rolls with extra perforations and an extra price tag, I simply cut a roll in half.  My little Japanese razor saw does a neat job:
